Calling, meeting with and hiring a DJ service can be quite the challenge. When you call, be ready with the following information:
- If pricing is discussed: Make sure that includes everything you want. Some DJ companies perfer to meet with you before they quote you a price. There are a lot of details that should be discussed. Also meeting your DJ entertainer is important to you as a consumer. Meetings should be set up at a location that you feel comfortable. Common locations to meet a DJ are a resaurant, coffee shop or some other public place. However your home or office can work well too!
Meeting observations you may want to make:
- Is the DJ company sales rep. on time?
- Is that person dressed appropriately for a sales meeting?
- Is the sales rep. prepared? Is it a good presentation?
- Were all your questions & concerns addressed?
- Does the price quote cover all your expectations?
(Note: Some companies love to slip in upsales!)
Questions you may consider asking the DJ company Rep. you meet with:
- Are you going to be my DJ or is someone else going to show up at the event?
- If someone else will be handling my event, can I meet and plan my event with them?
- Share with me the training & experience levels of the DJ at my event?
- How does the planning process work? Is it done with my DJ or is it done online?
- What is the backup plan if my DJ is sick or can't make my event date?
- If music is digital, what is the backup plan for a complete computer failure?
- Is my DJ available to do a site visit with me days prior to the event?
- Does a site visit "days before my event" cost extra or is it included in my quote?
- For wedding events, does my DJ make the rehersal? Does this cost extra?
- On the day of the event, when does my DJ load in, set up & test system?
- How will my DJ be dressed for my event?
- Is set up & take down time included in my quote?
- If I want the DJ to stay longer, how does that work?
- I expect my DJ to know what music works & doesn't work with my event.If I want to select some specific music, am I allowed to and is there any limitations?
- Can I bring some of my own music? What music formats can you play? (ipods, MP3 etc.)
- Some venues require the DJ to have liability insurance, do you have that?
- What is your deposit to reserve the date?
- What is your refund policy?
- When it is time to review the entertainment agreement, does it answer all your concerns?
